Amazon’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jeff Bezos has resigned from his post and will step down from his position by the end of this year. Amazon announced that AWS CEO Andy Jassy will replace Jeff Bezos in the third quarter of this year to become the new CEO. With this, Jeff Bezos has been told that he will be the executive chairman of the board.
Andy Jassy started his career in Amazon in the year 1997 and was appointed as the head of Amazon Web Services. He took the company to a new high in the cloud computing business, which today has millions of users in the world. Jassyholds an MBA degree from the Howard School of Business and became an ally of Bezos at the beginning of the new century and played a big role in boosting the company’s sales.
Andy once told in a podcast that he got an offer to join Amazon in 1997 when he was doing an MBA from Harvard Business School. He gave his last MBA exam on one Friday in May and joined the company on Monday. He did not even know the position he would be getting and what would be his responsibility. Jassy founded Amazon Web Services in 2003 with 57 people and in April 2016 he was promoted to the position of CEO from Amazon Web Services Senior Vice President. Andy joined Amazon in 1997 as a marketing manager. He then took Amazon Cloud Services, the cloud business of Amazon, to new heights.
He was seen as Bezos’ successor following the resignation of Amazon Consumer Consumer Officer Jeff Wilke for two decades. Jassy, 53, said, “You constantly make changes to stay healthy. You must always make changes. You must make tireless efforts to reach the right thing. You must know what is going on and what is not.”
