20) MD Minhaj (Human Rights Defender And Social Worker – 2023)
The Bihar government had reinstated us teachers on a contract of only Rs 1500. We formed a teachers’ union and started a movement against the government. In 2005, our movement got its first success in which instead of 11 months’ service, we got 60 years’ salary and Rs 1500. So the government was forced to protest to increase the salary to Rs 4000 thousand and we got success, then gradually we kept protesting every 3 years, then in 2015 we started a big movement in which all the government employees of Bihar were closed the school and went on strike. Then the government gave a small pay scale due to which our salary increased significantly. During the movement, I was arrested. Lakhs of teachers blocked the road and surrounded many government offices to get my release. After 12 hours, the government released me, again the movement intensified, then the government bowed down and once again the salary increased. Similarly, by doing big movements for 3, 3 or 4 years in a row, I have achieved something for my 5 lakh teachers. Even now my movement is going on. continues…..I have always fought for human rights. Struggle and war are also inevitable along with the service of society.
